Halloween Flags

Halloween is an exceedingly popular Holiday.....

On this day children dress up as ghouls and goblins and go trick or treating around the neighborhood for candy while adults dress up and attend Halloween parties.

Nobody knows exactly when the Halloween tradition started. The name means 'The day before All Saints or All Hallows Day'. The name may imply Christian roots, but its origin is definitely Pagan as the Druids and the Celts combined the celebrations of their New Year and the honoring of the Sun God -  The Lord of the Dead. Different colours of the Druid attire meant different things.

Its roots are similar to those of New Years..... By celebrating the death of an old year and the birth of a new one.

The Celts believed the dead returned to the living on this day to seek redemption. The sinners were forced to come back in the bodies of animals and through the sacrifice of these animals it is believed their spirits were released to seek a higher reward.

In Pagan times, horses and even humans were often sacrificed along with black cats because they were thought to befriend witches. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III, to honor the sanctity of all the saints, declared November 1, to be 'All Saints Day'. The evening before was known to be favored by sorcerers, witches and evil spirits.

The tradition of dressing up and begging for food goes back to the Pagan New Year's feast where it was believed ghosts hung around the food tables. When the feast was over townspeople dressed as the dead to drive the evil spirits away. There isn't really any religious significance or evil association with Halloween today as it's basically celebrated for fun and next to Christmas is probably the most anticipated day of the year for children.

There are Halloween flags like ghost flags, goblin flags, ghoul flags, witch flags, black cat flags, broomstick flags, pumpkin flags, bat flags and any other scary flag icons associated with Halloween. Halloween flags are a lot of fun  to fly on the porch on Halloween night!
